BS 6172 shares best practice recommendations for the installation, servicing and maintenance of new and second-hand domestic gas-fired cooking appliances. This applies to domestic, commercial and industrial premises, including educational establishments. This standard also refers to gas-powered devices and cookers that conform to BS EN 30-1-1, BS EN 30-1-2, BS EN 30-1-3, BS EN 30-2-2, BS 5386-3 or BS 5386-4, burning 2nd and 3rd family gases. It’s important to remember that other criteria, such as surface temperatures and the appliance’s stability should be taken into account during the installation process too.
BS 6172 starts by taking an in-depth look at the design, planning and location of cooking appliances, before discussing siting and clearance requirements. The standard then explains ventilation, flueing, the different gas connections and stability devices. Other topics include electrical supplies and wiring, commissioning and guidance on the installation of flexible connectors.
