Gas Safe Register reports that FREE gas safety checks for the elderly, provided for by energy suppliers and worth £134M, goes unclaimed every year.
Research carried out by Gas Safe Register identifies that 88% of elderly homeowners have never claimed the free gas safety check, which could literally save their lives as winter bites.
The Office of National Statistics (ONS) reports that 25, 700 people lost their lives last year from cold-related illness – a shameful statistic for the UK, who has the highest winter death rate in Northern Europe!
